Is it a generational thing? (Effing millennials!) Is Tyler clueless? How could he not see that the ad be perceived as racist?
I don’t get it. I know Mountain Dew wanted to be cutting edge, but it seems that no one test-marketed the ad before it rolled out. Are there any women who makes marketing decisions for the Mountain Dew brand or are they “post-gender”?
I am bothered by this, because I don’t want to care about what Tyler the Creator does. However, if he is influential to Black youth and they happen to forget about perception and negative African American stereotypes because of him, then there’s a problem.
