More Than Awkward Black Girl: Black Women And Web Series

Last year, Issa Rae’s Awkward Black Girl broke out and now she’s doing a TV show with Shonda Rhimes. But Issa is not the only one Black woman doing a web series.

Check out Nicole Byer (Girl Code) and Sasheer Zamata’s hilarious webseries, The Pursuit of Sexiness. It is like Sex and The City but with real talk for twentysomething African American women. It’s on the Upright Citizens Brigade YouTube channel.

Akilah Hughes, New York based writer and comedian, has created a video that is going viral, “Meet Your First Black Girlfriend“. It has nearly half a million views.

Angela Tucker has recently re-launched her web series, Black People Don’t. Look for new episodes weekly in January.

Franchesca Ramsey does both natural hair and comedy videos. She also does a live weekly Google Hangout on Fridays.
